Pinus sabiniana

Often seen among other blue leaved plants from the serpentine soils of much of California and into southern Oregon. Tall, to 30 feet or more upright, and graceful (some old grumps say straggly) with a crooked trunk, often forked, dark gray, furrowed bark, and 10", silver-blue needles thinly covering the open crown. Superb back lit in winter light and the best trees for areas where little shade is wanted. Sun, lean soil and very little summer water once established. Frost hardy in USDA zone 7, and into zone 6.
